3.9 Meine Kleidung

Hallo alle zusammen!

Zum Aufwärmen machen wir unseren Tagesminiplausch und eine Wiederholung.

Wiederholung

In the previous lesson, you learned how to describe your eyes and hair, and state whether you wear glasses. Let’s review what you have learned.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Welche Farbe haben deine Haare? Welche Farbe haben deine Augen? Answer the questions in your written journal. Then record your answers in your audio journal.

Lektionsüberblick

As the saying going, Kleider machen Leute (literal: clothes make people -> the clothes make the man). For the final section of our Thema Der ganze Mensch, we will turn our attention to clothing. Just like the previous sections, your efforts to commit words to memory should be concentrated on the pieces of clothing that are most relevant to you. In this lesson, you will be introduced to some basic clothing. In the end, you will be able to 1) name some pieces of clothing, 2) say some items of clothing you wear/are wearing, and 3) say some items of clothing you do not wear.

1) Kleidungsstücke (Pieces of Clothing)

Let’s explore Kleidungsstücke with these activities.

Now let’s play a memory game.

Listen as the speaker describes what Kleidungsstücke she has in her closet. Which Kleidungsstücke can you understand?

Ich trage ein T-Shirt.

Ich trage eine Hose.

Ich trage ein Unterhemd.

Ich trage Socken.

Ich trage ein Hemd.

Ich trage einen Gürtel.

Ich trage einen Rock.

Ich trage ein Kleid.

Ich trage einen Pullover.

Ich trage eine Jacke.

Ich trage Schuhe.

Ich trage eine Unterhose.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Welche Kleidungsstücke hast du in deinem Kleiderschrank? Answer the question in your written journal, making a list of Kleidungsstücke that you have in your closet.
Now record this in German in your audio journal. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording. Or rerecord, if you are not satisfied.

2) Ich trage…

Do recall how to say that you wear glasses? Let’s do a quick review because this same form will prove useful for saying that you are wearing a T-shirt, jeans, or any item of clothing.

Now let’s look at an example with clothing. Then complete the set of questions below.

Kleiner Hinweis

The words Brille (glasses) and Hose (pants) act similarly in a sentence. Just like you learned, Ich trage eine Brille, you will say, Ich trage eine Hose. It takes some practice, but you will get the hang of it. Try saying both sentences now.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Was trägst du? What are you wearing? Ein T-Shirt? Einen Hut? Eine Brille? In your written journal, write down what you are wearing. Use the modeled language in the activity above.
Then record yourself saying the sentence aloud. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording it again.

3) Ich trage keinen/keine/kein…

Do you remember the little word kein that was introduced in unit two? It negates something or means no. What do you think the sentence below might mean?

Ich trage keine T-Shirts.

Ich trage keine Hosen.

Ich trage keine Unterhemden.

Ich trage keine Socken.

Ich trage keine Hemden.

Ich trage keine Gürtel.

Ich trage keine Röcke.

Ich trage keine Kleider.

Ich trage keine Pullover.

Ich trage keine Jacken.

Ich trage keine Schuhe.

Ich trage keine Unterhosen.

Let’s practice.

Kleiner Hinweis

Ich trage keine Brille can mean I don’t wear glasses or I am not wearing glasses. This is true for all sentences in German that follow this form (or verb tense, for those who enjoy grammar references). You will have to judge from the context of the situation which meaning to infer.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Welche Kleidung trägst du nicht? What clothing do you never wear? T-Shirts? Pullover? Röcke?  Answer the question in your written journal, using the modeled language above.
Then record your answer aloud. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording it again.

Zum Schluß

In this lesson, you learned to 1) name some pieces of clothing, 2) say what items of clothing you wear/are wearing, and 3) some items of clothing you do not wear. If you are feeling unsure about any part of the expanded introduction, go back to that section and review.
Was trägst du heute? Was trägst du nie? What are you wearing today? What do you never wear? Answer the questions in your written journal using the modeled language throughout this lesson. Then record yourself in your audio journal. The more you practice saying these words and sentences aloud, the better your recall will be.

*As you conclude this lesson, don’t forget to check Canvas!*
