3.5 Oft sehr glücklich, manchmal etwas traurig

Hallo alle zusammen!

Zum Aufwärmen machen wir unseren Tagesminiplausch und eine Wiederholung.

Wiederholung

In the previous lesson, you learned some vocabulary to describe your feelings and states of mind and body. Let’s review.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Wie geht’s? Write down as many of the sentences above that fit with how you are doing right now.

Lektionsüberblick

In this lesson, we will expand on our ability to answer the question “Wie geht’s? by being able to talk about the frequency of our feelings (Gefühle), other states of mind (Geisteszustände), and physical states (körperliche Zustände). In the end, you will be able to say 1) express various levels of intensity of feelings and 2) say how often you feel certain feelings.

1) Ich bin sehr müde.

Consider the adjective de. You’ve learned that you can place the word nicht in front of the adjective or characteristic to indicate the opposite of that adjective.

Can you tell from the images what the other words in front of the adjective mean?

sehr müde ein bißchende/etwas müde gar nicht müde
woman sleeping on train woman with cup against head man jumping through air

You can use these words (nicht, gar nicht, etwas, ein bißchen, and sehr) to add levels of intensity to any adjective. Let’s try it out.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Wie geht’s? Think about your previous answers. Which ones would you modify with nicht, gar nicht, etwas/ein bißchen, or sehr to be more accurate?
Now record your revised answer in German in your audio journal. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording. Or rerecord, if you are not satisfied.

2) Ich bin oft müde.

🎥 You can watch this fun German music video called Immer Müde by Alexander Eder. Can you catch the phrase immer müde?

Jetzt bist du dran!

Return again to your previous response to Wie geht’s? Let’s expand the conversation to ask how often (wie oft?) you feel that way. For example, if you responded above, “Ich bin sehr müde“, then the follow up question is “Wie oft bist du (sehr) müde?” How can you respond to this?
Ich bin immer (sehr) müde.
Ich bin oft (sehr) müde.
Ich bin manchmal (sehr) müde.
Ich bin nie (sehr) müde. -> This one does not really work, does it, if you are feeling tired right now? 😊
Take each of your responses from the previous “Jetzt bist du dran!” and add how often you feel that way. Then record yourself saying this sentence aloud.

Zum Schluß

Now write out out a dialogue between you and a friend, family member or classmate, based on this model:
Ich: Hallo, Sofia! Wie geht’s?
Sofia: Mir geht’s gut. Und dir?
Ich: Ich bin sehr entspannt und glücklich.
Sofia: Toll! Wie oft bist du so entspannt und glücklich?
Ich: Ich bin manchmal sehr entspannt und oft glücklich.

Then record yourself saying this dialogue aloud. Or better yet, meet up with a classmate and record together!
