4.13 Wann machst du deine Hobbys?

Hallo alle zusammen!

Zum Aufwärmen machen wir unseren Tagesminiplausch und eine Wiederholung.

Wiederholung

In the previous lesson, you learned to talk about how long you have participated in a hobby or activity and to give simple reasons for why you like your hobby. Let’s review what you have learned.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Wie lange machst du schon dein Hobby? Answer the question using the word seit + a length of time. Warum machst du gern dein Hobby?  Why do you like to do your hobby? Answer this question using a short answer from the examples above or from the previous lesson.

Lektionsüberblick

As you talk more about your hobbies and share your interests with potential friends, you may ask each other how often you each engage with your hobbies. In this lesson, we will take our previous knowledge about days and times of day and apply it to our hobbies and other free time activities. In the end, you will be able to say how often you engage with your hobbies/activities, whether 1) every day, every week, etc. or 2) biweekly, bimonthly, etc.

1) Daily, weekly, monthly

Your friends might want to know when you participate in an activity. In order to answer this, you’ll need to know the question that you will hear first. Listen to the example questions below.

Wann schwimmst du?

Wann kochst du?

Wann fotografierst du?

Hear are some responses that you can use as models. Read and listen.

You can also show the regularity of an activity with the word jeden.

Let’s practice.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Wann machst du dein Hobby? Answer the question in your written journal, using the language modeled here. Challenge yourself by writing sentences for all of your hobbies and free time activities.
Now record your response(s) in German in your audio journal. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording. Or rerecord, if you are not satisfied.

2) Other frequencies

Do you recall the numbers 1-10? If not, you can review the numbers from lesson 1.3. You can use your knowledge of the numbers to indicate the number of times you do an activity. Read and listen to the examples.

Ich spiele Volleyball zweimal die Woche.
Ich wandere dreimal im Monat.

Let’s practice.

Zum Schluß

In this lesson, you have learned to say how often you engage with your hobbies/activities, whether 1) every day, every week, etc. or 2) biweekly, bimonthly, etc. If you are feeling unsure about any part, go back to that section and review.
Think about one of your activities and when you do it. Wann machst du dein Hobby? Is it every Saturday, a couple of times a month or maybe a daily practice. Write this down in your written journal. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording. Or rerecord, if you are not satisfied.
