Chapter 7 Reflection: Engaging Reluctant Writers
Read Muriel Harris’ chapter Talk to Me: Engaging Reluctant Writers taken from A Tutor’s Guide: Helping Writers One to One, edited by Ben Rafoth, 2nd ed., 2005). Harris draws on her deep experience working with student writers who may be anxious, disengaged, or resistant to help.
Then reflect:
- What strategies does Harris recommend for connecting with these writers?
- Have you ever felt like a “reluctant writer” yourself, or worked with someone who was?
- How might you apply one or two of Harris’s suggestions in your own consultations?
If you’re turning this in to your director (yes, for UW!) please write a response of at least three paragraphs.
