This book is for students enrolled in the University of Wyoming’s ReNEW and RN to BSN nursing program taking Nursing 4840, Healthcare Systems.
Each module section contains much of the required reading for the week. Please refer to WyoCourses for any additional assigned reading.
Learning Objectives
On completion of this course, the student will meet the following outcomes:
- Deconstruct relationships between professionalism, ethics, and the legal aspects of nursing practice and professional identity. (PLO 5, 7. AACN 10.2a,10.2c,10.2d, 5.2d, 9.5a-e)
- Apply knowledge of healthcare systems and illustrate how they work effectively across the continuum of care and how care is impacted (AACN 7.1 a-d)
- Recognize system effectiveness by applying evidence-based practice, internal and external system processes, and quality metrics to improve health care outcomes. (AACN 7.3 a-d)
- Demonstrate the impact of healthcare quality measures and improvements on patient outcomes, nursing practice and healthcare organizations. (PLO 2,3. AACN 5.1a-5.1h, 5.2f)
- Examine payment models and cost effectiveness of care and how they impact health disparities and outcomes (PLO 2; AACN 7.2a-f)
