Introduction

Welcome!

This book is for students enrolled in the University of Wyoming’s ReNEW and RN to BSN nursing program taking Nursing 4645, Population Health.

Each module section contains much of the required reading for the week. Please refer to WyoCourses for any additional assigned reading.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course, the student will meet the following outcomes:

  1. Explain approaches to provide culturally responsive care to patients in populations. (PLO 1, 2, 6; AACN 3.1g, 3.1i, 9.6a)
  2. Describe the role of the nurse in providing population-based care. (PLO 5, 6; AACN 1.1d, 3.1e)
  3. Clarify differences in levels of prevention related to communities and identify barriers and facilitators of prevention. (PLO 1,2,3,4,5,6 AACN 1.1d, 1.2c, 1.2d, 2.9b, 2.9c, 3.1a, 3.1c, 3.1d, 3.2a, 3.2b, 3.3a, 3.3b, 3.6c, 3.6d, 3.6e)
  4. Apply nursing knowledge and skills in disaster management and develop practices to reduce disaster damage to the community. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 6; AACN 3.1e; 3.6c; 3.6d)
  5. Identify changes and conditions that might indicate a disaster or a public health emergency. (PLO 2; 3.6a, 3.6b)
