2 Chapter 2: Manner of Articulation

Manner of articulation is how a sound is produced. For example, when air is stopped, and then blasted forth as in a /p/ sound this is called a “plosive” or a “stop”. Fricatives include a narrowing of the articulators to create a narrow stream of air without stopping the air entirely.
