Meine Welt – Meine Umwelt

In the final Thema: Meine Welt, we will take a look at the world around us and our role in it. The focus will be on the natural world and the ways humans interact with nature. As always, our primary goal is to prepare you to live or work in a German-speaking country, for a few months or years. The focus will be on these topics as they are lived and discussed in German-speaking Europe. As you work through the lessons, be sure to build your passive vocabulary by reading and listening to all of the content and increase your active vocabulary by repeating all activities that feel the most meaningful to you.

Here is an overview of the learning objectives for each Lektion of the Thema: Meine Welt – meine Umwelt. At the end of each lesson, you will be able to

4.1 Landschaftstypen

• identify a variety of flora and fauna found in the Alps
• identify a variety of flora and fauna found in lowland forests
• identify a variety of flora and fauna found on/at the Nordsee, Ostsee, Bodensee
• talk about the flora and fauna you would like to see

4.2 Haus- und Nutztiere

• identify a variety of pets and farm animals
• talk about your pet ownership and/or plans for pet ownership
• identify relevant rules for pet ownership in Liechtenstein and other German-speaking countries

4.3 Die Rückkehr der Wölfe

• identify important vocabulary needed to express the wolf situation in Germany,
• use simple structures to describe the situation
• express agreement or disagreement with a statemen

4.4 Nachhaltig leben

• identify zero waste methods
  • Pfand und Plastikeinkaufstaschen
  • Kompost und Biomüll
  • Mülltrennung und Recycling
• ask about local regulations
• talk about your plans for zero waste
