Now that you have booked the transportation to your chosen destination, you will look at your lodging options. Where you sleep will depend on whether you are traveling alone or with others and what level of comfort and privacy you want. At the end of this lesson, you will be able to 1) talk about your preferred travel companions, 2) identify different kinds of lodging and talk about what you prefer, and 3) book transportation and lodging for travel in a German speaking country.
1) Mitreisende
Can you tell what the word Mitreisende means? Think back to Mitbewohner = the person with (mit) whom you are living (wohnen). Mitreisende works the same way = the person with (mit) whom you are traveling (reisen). Mit wem reist du am liebsten? With whom do you prefer to travel? Here are some typical travel companions.

Balzers im Blickpunkt
Die Burg Gutenberg ist eine mittelalterliche Burg in Balzers in Liechtenstein. Sie wurde im 12. Jahrhundert gebaut und steht auf einem 70 Meter hohen, freistehenden Felshügel über dem Dorf. Von dort hat man einen schönen Blick auf das Rheintal. Die Burg ist eines der wichtigsten Wahrzeichen des Landes. Von 1905-1912 errichtete der damalige Besitzer Egon Rheinberger die zur Ruine verfallene Burg möglichst originalgetreu wieder. Dabei erweiterte er auch die Burganlage mit zusätzlichen Bauten. Heute finden dort Veranstaltungen und Feste statt. Man kann den Grundriss sehen und mehr zur Geschichte auf www.burgenwelt.org lesen.
Gutenberg Castle is a medieval castle in Balzers, Liechtenstein. Built in the 12th century, it stands on a 70 meter high free-standing rock overlooking the village, offering beautiful views of the Rhine Valley. The castle is one of the country’s most important landmarks. From 1905-1912, the previous owner Egon Rheinberger substantially restored the castle, which had fallen into ruin, as true to the original as possible. At the same time, he expanded the castle grounds with additional buildings. Today, many events and festivals take place there. Wir planen gerade unseren nächsten Familienurlaub. Dabei überlegen wir, wohin wir fahren und wie wir reisen. Oft wählen wir Reiseziele, die wir mit dem Auto erreichen können. Auch dieses Mal werden wir unterwegs Pausen machen. Am meisten freuen sich unsere Kinder aber auf die Zugfahrt – das ist für sie immer spannend! In den Osterferien möchten wir in die Berge nach Malbun in Liechtenstein fahren. Dort werden wir eine Hütte mieten und hoffentlich im Schnee spielen. Unten im Tal in Vaduz könnte es schon wärmer sein, aber oben in den Bergen wird es sicher noch Winter sein. Wir freuen uns schon sehr auf die gemeinsame Zeit! |

Build on the trip for which you “booked” transportation and look at lodging options. Start the process of booking your lodging (without paying for anything!) by using booking.com (or another site) — be sure to use the German version of the page. Write down or screenshot your connections and expenses.
