6.4 Stille Wasser sind tief

Hallo allerseits!

Zum Aufwärmen machen wir unseren Tagesminiplausch und eine Wiederholung.

Wiederholung

In the previous lesson, you learned about Eiweishaltige Lebensmittel. Let’s review what you have learned.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Welche Eiweishaltige Lebensmittel isst du am liebsten? Write those products in your written journal. Review the pronunciation if needed from the previous lesson and record the words in your audio journal.

Lektionsüberblick

Stille Wasser sind tief (still waters are deep) and stilles Wasser is something you want to order at a restaurant, if you do not like carbonated water. Don’t expect ice in the cup, though! Even if you order a soda (called Cola), you may not receive any ice cubes. Ice cold beer is also not a typical. You may remember most of the main kinds of drinks, now it’s time to review and expand. In this lesson, you will review different kinds of beverages typically consumed in the US (and Germany). In the end, you will be able to 1) name at least 5 kinds of beverages, 2) say which beverages you prefer to drink, and 3) say how you prefer the beverages served.

Was weißt du schon?

Let’s do a quick skills check.

Noch nicht start klar?

Du kannst immer auf die gleiche 1010-Lektion zurückgreifen!

Not confident about starting this lesson?

You can always review the same Lektion from 1010.

1) die Getränke

We focused on things we can eat in the first part of this unit; now it’s time for things we can drink. Read and listen to the words below. How many do you remember?

Let’s practice.

Kleiner Hinweis

If you are celebrating with others and making a toast, the word you use when clinking glasses is “Prost!” (Cheers!) in Germany. You might also hear, “Zum Wohl!” (to your health!).

Jetzt bist du dran!

Imagine you are out celebrating an occasion with German friends. What would you most likely be drinking? Build a sentence that states what you like to drink with friends. Was trinkst du gern mit Freunden?
Now record this in German in your audio journal. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording. Or rerecord, if you are not satisfied.

2) Lieber und am liebsten

Was trinkst du lieber – Cola oder Kaffee? Was trinkst du am liebsten? Do you relate to any of the example sentences below?

Die Frau links sagt, “Ich trinke lieber Wasser als Cola.” Der Mann sagt, “Ich trinke lieber Bier als Wein.” Die Frau sagt, “Ich trinke schwarzen Tee am liebsten.”

Let’s practice.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Your German friend wants to make sure that they have something that you will enjoy drinking when you stop by later. They ask, Was trinkst du am liebsten? How do you respond?
Then record your response in your audio journal. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording. Or rerecord, if you are not satisfied.

3) Getränke serviert

Wie trinkst du gerne Tee? Heiß oder kalt? How do you like your beverages served? These are little things but can have an effect on our enjoyment!

Take a look at these example sentences:

Ich trinke lieber Cola mit als ohne Eiswürfeln.

Ich trinke Kaffee nur mit Milch und Zucker.

Ich trinke Tee ohne Zucker.

Ich trinke lieber kaltes als warmes Bier.

Jetzt bist du dran!

Consider your ideal drink. How is it served? Describe that now in your written journal. Ich trinke gern…
Then record yourself  in your audio journal. If you can do it immediately without reading, that’s great! Otherwise, practice saying it a couple times before recording. Or rerecord, if you are not satisfied.

Zum Schluß

In this lesson, you learned to 1) name at least 5 kinds of beverages, 2) say which beverages you prefer to drink, and 3) say how you prefer the beverages served. If you are feeling unsure about any part of the expanded introduction, go back to that section and review.
Look at the photos below and describe at least three beverages you see with as much detail as you have learned. Write these descriptions in your written journal.
