In the previous lesson, you learned to name a wide variety of colors, ask what the favorite color of a another person is, and say what the favorite color of a family member or friend is. Let’s review!

In this lesson, you will be connecting your German to the world around you by presenting a description of various murals from the Laramie Mural Project in Laramie, Wyoming. In the end, you will be able to 1) make simple comparisons between two murals with more/less, 2) make simple comparisons with better than, and 3) give a short presentation about your top two mural picks.

The Laramie Mural Project

Public art offers us a fantastic way to explore art, image, meaning, and color. For that reason, we are going to explore the murals in downtown Laramie online and/or offline. In the links below, you can see images of the murals and a suggested route, if you want to tour many of the downtown murals IRL. A walking or biking tour of the murals could be a great way to get to know your classmates for any students located in Laramie.

Using the pictures of the murals above or pictures of the Laramie Murals, build a sentence comparing the colors of the two pictures/murals. Write this sentence in your written journal.

Practice making a comparison between two murals. Look at the Laramie Murals and choose two. Then write and record a sentence that says which mural you like better. How do you feel? Record it a second time if you feel you need the practice.

3) How to present on your chosen murals

Follow along with the text below as Sofia gives her presentation about her favorite mural (Lieblingswandbild). Use this model for your presentation. You can listen to Sofia’s presentation below.

Guten Tag! Ich heiße Sofia Müller. Ich bin 21 Jahre alt. Ich komme aus Hannover und ich wohne in Laramie. Die Laramie Wandbilder “Tierra y Libertad” von Talal Cocker und “Escape” von Meghan Meier gefallen mir mehr als die anderen Wandbilder. Im Bild “Tierra y Libertad” gefallen mir die Farben, die Blumen, und das Gesicht des Mannes. Es gibt sehr viel weiß, viel gelb, dunkelrot, braun, und schwarz, etwas grün, und wenig orange. Im Bild “Escape” gefallen mir die Farben, das Fahrrad, der Baum, und die Berge.  Es gibt sehr viel blau, viel rot, etwas grün, weiß, grau und hellbraun, und wenig dunkelbraun. Das erste Bild hat mehr Weiß als das zweite Bild. Das zweite Bild hat mehr Blau aus das erste Bild.
